National Electoral Commission (NEC) has said the government has not dismissed some commission’s directors and replaced them with people who will favour Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) during elections.

NEC Chairperson, Damian Lubuva told local media on Sunday that allegations raised by CHADEMA chairperson, Freeman Mbowe that the government had shifted some NEC officials and replaced them with National security forces operatives are false and misleading to the public.
“There are changes made by the president last month where Director of Elections, Julius Malaba was appointed but the move was aimed at strengthening the commission and not favouring parties,” he said.

At a rally on Saturday, Chadema chairperson, Freeman Mbowe raised allegations against the commission saying that the commission is now operated by officials from security forces who are working for CCM.

“I want to tell my brother Mbowe and Chadema supporters to stop misleading the public and interfering commission’s functions,” Lubuva said.
The NEC chair lamented that it is not the first time for Chadema to speak about rigging. He reassured them that NEC will ensure the election is free and fair.

Speaking about fake votes which Chadema claimed they would be distributed by NEC in all regions, Lubuva said there were no such votes.

“I always hear them talking about protecting their votes, they are just imagining... I am saying again with confidence that this will be a fair and fair election,” he said.
